New 10 incher from Ace - "Link sings Elvis"

Postby Mister Moon » Thu Jun 20, 2019 5:00 pm

To be released July 26 (see link for track listing) :

From ‘Rumble’ onwards, Link Wray was known for his terminal, Kerrang-style guitar instrumentals as featured in many a movie.

But he was also a fine singer and an enormous Elvis fan as shown on these 90s recordings made for Ace.

So here we present two sides of Link and Elvis. The LOUD side rocks out in the classic Link, turbo-charged, full-tilt way for which he is renowned. The flipside takes down the tempo and the volume and finds Link in a reflective mood with five ballads, including the previously unissued ‘That’s When Your Heartaches Begin’.

The 10” album format is ideal for this and no prizes for guessing the influence of the cover design. Note Link’s T-shirt as well – not Photoshopped in, but worn on the day.

Sleeve design based on the 1957 UK HMV 10" release "The Best Of Elvis" :

Link Wray was my cousin by marriage. His daughter Beth still does all she can to keep his memory alive.

This is very interesting. So you married one of his cousins, right ?

Also very nice to learn the name of Link's daughter - Beth.

There's a beautiful, evocative, track on his third album, "Jack The Ripper" (Swan, 1963), called "My Beth". Now I know who was he thinking of when he wrote and recorded it. Many thanks.

Link Wray rocks !

I'd like to hear these tracks.

Could be worth tracking down.

Sounds interesting. That's the sort of influence I like to see Elvis having!
