It's odd, isn't it ?

And imagine winning with your £95,000 bid, but when you try to collect them, the auctioneers want you to cough up an extra £25,000 !

What a killer !

When a friend of mine knew his life wasgoing to end, he asked me to sell his items through eBay.
Because everything was poor quality, I told him he should not expect to fetch more than € 1,00 (GBP 0.85) for most items.
It was even worse.
Whatever sold for € 1,00 was charged with € 0,90 on Paypal fee and eBay selling fee.
For this I had to scan all items, list them and pack and mail them when sold.
A better place to sell is Marktplaats, which does not charge any fee. Items are automatically 2 times re-listed every 4 weeks.
Downside is people want to pick up items and pay cash, but when you sell it for € 1,00 they stand in front of your door having only 80 cents!
Luckily there are also normal people who pay the price they offered to pay. The problem is always with people who buy something for a small amount.

If somebody had tried that trick with me to save 20 cents I would have destroyed the item in front of his eyes and told him to get lost with his 80 cents.

An easy way out is to get Dick Grob to sign a Certificate of Authenticity for items.

A fool and his money are easily parted.
There are many people who have an "original" pressing of "That's all right" in remarkably good condition.
Then I read an article about the start of Elvis' career and it states that record initially sold 7,000 copies.
Elsewhere I had read that his Sun records sold about 20,000 copies each.
At a record fair I once saw a guy who had really rare (Dutch beat) singles for really high prices. All "originals" from the early sixties.
Saw him sell one of the singles on the table. When the buyer left, he grabbed in a box underneath the table and...... had another "original" of the sold disc.Seems he had 100 copies each reprinted of some rare records.

There's Hebler, too (and he is still around).

-----------------------------

Angie is not an "expert."
Weinshanker is protecting his stakes (and dislikes Priscilla).
The black grommet jacket is fake (not even a multiple original). (When things don't sell at auction, there is a reason.)
Many of those around EP will write letters for various reasons (some are innocent mistakes/misremembering, etc.)
Priscilla has (finally) been exposed for writing LOAs for a kickback.
In fact, many of those around EP have signed and/or misrepresented (in some cases, many) various items over the years/decades.
And that's As The Elvis World Turns .....

(There are real items out there, of course, but you have to know what to look for and do one's own due diligence.)

The Skinner/Hebler video is fascinating.

(Wasn't sure where to post this, but thought this thread would probably be the most appropriate.)
On that note, more on Hebler .....

(If you choose to watch it, ..... then make your own judgements. My opinion is he is enjoying his limelight in the eyes of some of the fandom.)

For those who may have watched the video (or may be interested), here are the two items that Dave Hebler talks about in the video:

Some more from Hebler, here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcX6WyWHgXU

"Elvis's Bodyguard Dave Hebler 47 Years after the Controversial Book: EP Back on Tour"

Interesting and insightful.

Respect to the interviewer (whom I thought was respectful, yet still asked the hard questions).
--> For some of the younger fans (at the time), the EWH? book was like learning that "Superman" could "not really fly."

(I think this is an important interview, because Dave Hebler is the only guy (of the original three) that is still with us to give us some first hand background ~ 47 years on.)

One additional thought (re: Back on Tour Hebler Interview) -

Like I said, the interviewer did an excellent job, but I would have asked/suggested one additional question of Hebler:

In the '76 phone call w/ Red West (infamously recorded), EP talks about Ed Parker warning him about Dave Hebler ..... "keep him at arm's length" and "stupid ol' me - I didn't listen" (paraphrased) ------> What was that all about???

----------------------

I really liked the ending of the interview though ..... "I'm still here." Very poignant and very true.
