Were there not (occasional) cheap(er) seats also available at times (different venues)?

There were different ticket prices depending on where your seats were. When we saw him in 76 the ticket prices were $15 for about the first half of the seats that were closest to the stage and then $12 or so for the middle and about $10 for way in the back or behind the stage. Our seats were just to the side, just above the floor, so we were pretty close to the stage. We had friends who way in the back and they paid $10 or so. I sat in the same section for Paul McCartney a month later and my seats were $10. I’m sure seats were priced different in different parts of the country. I was 15 when we saw him in 76 and I remember people talking that his tickets were more expensive than other artists that played McNichol’s Arena. When we saw Elvis in Las Vegas in 73, we saw other shows as well (Johnny Carson and Jerry Lewis) and my parents used to go to Vegas about once a year and see shows and I remember my Dad commenting that Elvis was about $10 more than other shows.

Nice to see she kept her face covered like a Highway robber... or maybe just the plastic surgery hadn't set in time for the event...
what a state she is..
in some ways its not such a bad thing Elvis died when he did, I hate to think he would have gone down the same root...

Not a rule but aren't ticket prices less for comedy shows as compared to music concerts? I always thought so.
So, comparing comedy shows to Elvis is a bit like comparing apples and oranges.
Elvis was the best, so I wouldn't mind paying a bit more.
To me Elvis would be worth it, but I wouldn't pay a dollar to see the Eagles, Joe Cocker, Iron Maiden, Foghat, David Bowie, Ray charles, Bonnie Rait, or a bunch of others. Most artists don't have enough good songs to keep me interested for an hour.

Johnny Carson and Jerry Lewis were huge stars, their tickets would be top tier. The next time I went to Vegas was in 1978 and we saw Sammy Davis Jr and Tom Jones and Mac Davis and their tickets were less than Elvis even 4 years later.

I saw many big concerts in the 80’s and shows like The Blues Brothers (Akroyd and Belushi), Elton John, Styx, Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones and their ticket prices were around the $15 to $18 range, equal to Elvis’ prices 10 years earlier.

Ain't that the truth.

The heck with The (70s) Eagles, The Blues Brothers, and frickin' Jerry Lewis.

The Blues Brothers was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I never saw the Eagles.

The point is, it’s a myth that Elvis and Parker priced their tickets so that Elvis fans could afford them. They were at the higher end of the scale compared to other artists but back then, that was even affordable compared to today.

Yes, concert tickets are laughably expensive nowadays. For example, this last summer John Fogerty played near here, and the cheapest ticket was 150 euros, which is probably two miles from the stage. I will not pay that price to look at a damn screen, that's for sure.

I was lucky a few years ago. John Fogerty played a free outdoor concert here in Denver on 9-11-2016 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of 9-11 and it was amazing!

Concerts have been priced out of my range. Except for maybe Paul McCartney, I can’t think of anybody I’d be willing to pay the prices they are asking.

That's cool. He's one of the few guys I would go to see right now, but at the current prices I know I won't. Not because I can"t afford it.

I've seen many original artists from the 50s, all of them gone right now. The best was Fats Domino in 1992. We were sitting on the third row (the first two were reserved for press and guests), about seven meters from the stage, just in front of him. It was a really, really memorable night.

I would have loved to have seen Fats. I did get to see Chuck Berry in the early 80’s and Jerry Lee in the 80s and 90s. I got to see a lot of great concerts of legendary artists starting in the late 70’s. Many at Red Rocks Amphitheater which is one of the great venues in the world. There’s just very few artists I’d be willing to pay their prices for now. I’ve been able to see Brian Setzer more recently for a reasonable price and he was great. I’ve also seen The Mavericks recently for a decent price. And I’ve seen The Struts 3 times for really cheap prices.

I love this Fats concert on YouTube:

There is now something fashionable called "dynamic pricing" which means if there is a significant number of people who buy tickets ....the already high prices will go up for several 100 Euros.
Oasis will use that, for instance, in their upcoming tour.
It's a rip off - anyway you look at it.
But as long as people pay it - no reason to stop being overly greedy.

Some fast food restaurants here in the states are doing this (like Wendy’s). They raise the prices during peak times of the day.

Also, (This has been going on a long time.), ticket prices for shows and concerts will be higher the day of the show, as opposed to if you had bought tickets before.

Add $12 for JSA Authentication.

THIS HARDCOVER EDITION OF PRISCILLA PRESLEY'S SOFTLY, AS I LEAVE YOU: LIFE AFTER ELVIS—A MEMOIR IS AUTOGRAPHED BY PRISCILLA PRESLEY.

Since first publishing her bestselling memoir, Elvis and Me, in 1985, life hasn't slowed down a wink for Priscilla Presley. In addition to launching new business ventures and helping turn Graceland into one of the nation's most popular tourist attractions, she's starred in films and TV shows, produced several more, and dedicated time and energy to a number of charitable endeavors, including the Dream Foundation. However, that hasn't stopped Hollywood from releasing a number of films (most recently, Baz Luhrmann's Elvis in 2022 and Sofia Coppola's Priscilla in 2023) seeking to capitalize on the complicated relationship she shared with her ex-husband. Priscilla's mostly held her tongue up to this point--but now, she wants to regain control of her own narrative.

In this new memoir, Priscilla Presley seizes her last chance to speak to Elvis fans about lingering questions regarding his legacy and everything that's happened to her since the first book. She reveals never-before-shared behind-the-scenes truths, including Elvis' trials and tribulations in Hollywood; his desire to turn Graceland into a sanctuary and away from his public role and his grueling last days; the devastating impact of the death of her mother-in-law; Elvis's affair with Ann-Margaret and its aftermath, among others. She also dives into the lives of their children and grandchildren, including her daughter's marriage to Michael Jackson, her addictions and tragic death; the heartbreaking loss of her grandson, her thoughts on current films depicting the life she shared with Elvis, and much, much more.

Packed with revelations and written in riveting prose, Priscilla's new memoir will be the definitive statement on her extraordinary life--and will shed new light on one of the most famous legacies in modern entertainment history.

Looks and sounds like a (another) blatant cash grab to me.

I couldn't care less, but I put it here for those that might find it compelling (and as an example of more of Priscilla).

Enjoy! :D
