This song is really a mystery. There are rumors of rehearsals. If Elvis really did a choice it could be possible that Elvis rehearsed the song.

Thanks very much, Colonel Snow, for sharing that great historical document. Very interesting. Do you know who compiled that list? Was it Elvis himself who made those specific suggestions? Or did he just requested ‘additional songs’ without further specification? And was it delivered to him by someone of his entourage or the record company, someone who had a better idea/understanding of his musical preferences at the time (i.e. someone who knew what Elvis liked)? Many thx.
Don't take yourself too seriously ;-)

Perhaps it's nice to know that for Aloha TV special 60 songs were selected with songs like It's impossible - Seperate ways. It explains why a song like Seperate ways is rehearsed in january 1973 and finally released on FTD From Hawaii to Vegas.

Still another from the list and also mentioned in the book Elvis From A -Z (Fred Worth & Steve Tamerius):

I played the fool
The song was written by Ahmet Ertegun. It was recorded on 18 may 1952 by The Clovers (Atlantic 977).

It's a great track, but was Ahmet's name D. Alexis?

According to the first link, the song was "written by Lee Magid and credited to his daughter Diane Alexis. Later issues credit Ahmet Nugetre and also his own name Lee Magid".

"Nugetre" was of course Ertegun spelled backwards, and several other Atlantic records of that era bear that credit.

I saw that, John, but I thought I would post both original labels together, because the one posted earlier in this thread is actually a reissue label.

There's a great variety. Even the 78 one I posted and the one seen in your video are different between them.

There was a daily rehearsel at 8-9-10 january 1973 starting at 7 PM with Elvis - musicians - vocal groups. This document showed the extra added songs.
Basicly the tracklist for Aloha was the same as performed on 17-18 november 1972 in Honolulu. These concerts were a "try-out" for the upcoming Aloha project.
There are no details known from these rehearsels but now you got an idea which songs were rehearsed.
A total of 60 songs were selected for Aloha (including later on The twelfth of never - Am I ready - Suzie Q) but during the rehearsels with Joe Guercio Orchestra this number of 60 songs was turned down to 25 songs. At the final even songs like How great thou art were cut from the list.

The show from 12 january 1973 was too short for broadcast; at last minute extra added for 14 january 1973: Johnny B. Goode - I can'stop lovin' you - Lawdy Misss Clady/Whole lotta shakin' goin on.
As usual songs come and gone.

In the special agreement between Elvis and RCA dated January 2, 1973, it was agreed upon that Elvis must perform 8 songs not released on an album by him at that time.

These eight songs were:

"Something"
"You Gave Me A Mountain"
"Steamroller Blues"
"My Way"
"It's Over"
"I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"
"What Now My Love"
"Welcome To My World"

All production costs for the album were to be paid by RCA and were not to be charged to any royalty statements, including all clearances, etc., for the following terms:

"The regular RCA record royalties, as contained in the regular RCA record contract between RCA Records and Elvis Presley will prevail."

A special advance non-returnable payment of $500,000 ($250,000 to Elvis, $250,000 to All Star Shows) to be made, is to be charged against the 5% royalty agreement for stereo 8 cartridge and cassette tape recordings and album sales on this product only. These advances are not to be charged against the 3% domestic and 2% foreign All Star Shows merchandising agreements. Payment to be made on or before January 10, 1973. Elvis approved of this agreement in a letter to Colonel Parked dated December 4, 1972. The January 2, 1973 agreement was signed by Colonel Parker and RCA executive George Parkhill.
