I thought he did the song "just a closer..." privately at Fadal's house in may 58 ?

The song "It was never meant to be" written by Doc Pomus was recorded by Dion and the Belmonds

The song is written and recorded by Don MacLean around 1972.
The song is registered at BMI with performer Elvis Presley. (see scans – page 2 is a list with performers I’ve not scanned). I’ve not found information about a selection for a recording session.
Somewhere rejected in a pre-selection?.

colonel snow

It's a beautiful song, but the composer's version has never been bettered, not even by himself. I don't believe Elvis could have done it justice, certainly not in 1972, or later.

Maybe Elvis decided to record "And I love you so" instead of this song? Song selections by Elvis is a difficult subject.

colonel snow

It is possible, and it's a much more suitable song.
