Frankie and Johnny
The version for the movie was written by Sid Wayne and Ben Weisman; RCA credited the song to Alex Gottlieb (screenplay) - Fred Karger (musical director from the movie) and Ben Weisman. It's unclear if the lyrics are re-written or the version by Syd Wayne-Ben Weisman is rejected. The tune is based on a version from the roaring twenties.

There are several versions of "Frankie & Johnny" looking just at rock and roll artists from the 50s.
From memory, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Charlie Feathers, and Bob Vidone - all of their versions, all recorded in the 50s, have different lyrics.

The original version was recorded in may 1921 by Al Barnard (Brunswick 2107)
