Col Snow, How do they go about selecting these songs and deciding what they keep and what they throw away.

The producer got a lot of demos for a movie. Several of the well known songwriters were invited to write a song for a certain scene. Sometimes three songwriters or more wrote a song with the same title. Before recording starts there's a meeting between the producer and Elvis about the selection of songs to be recorded for the movie. A final decision is made then about the songs to be recorded for the movie. Even during the recording sessions there are changes by remakes / added songs and deleted songs due to changes in the script. It's a continuing process from the start to finish where all kind of interests play an important role (royalties - selling sheet music etc).

1) Here an example for an unused demo version of Dominic by Gerald Nelson; in my opinion this version is better then Elvis' version.

2) Take a look into Movie-memorabilia section (Viva Las Vegas) with parts of the script and you can see how its works.
For scenes the songtitle isn't always known; as I said it's is continuing and growing process from start (first script to final script) to finish (movie editing in the cuttingroom). And after the preview it's possible that scenes/songs were changed / re-shoot.

Thans Col S, For taking time out to explain how things work..It is a lenthy process and i guess not a easy one for producers .
I will listen to the song when i go on my laptop as i cant download it on my ipad.

Bill Giant, Bernie Baum and Florence Kaye reached their great moment of glory and inspiration with "(You're The) Devil In Disguise".

Most of the songs they supplied to Elvis were pure garbage, let's face it.

When you look up their songwriting credits, they wrote some nice songs for other people, ones I never knew were written by them.
