This recording was released in 1971 on Ray Charles' Tangerine label. Of course, The Raelettes had sung on Charles original version of his song, recorded and released by Atlantic in 1956, when they were still named The Cookies. The a-side of the Atlantic single was Doc Pomus' "Lonely Avenue", recorded at the same session and also featuring The Cookies - what a stellar coupling.

Yes the Ray Charles recordings are great. I'm familiar with both of those recordings, but I hadn't heard the Raelettes version before. I really like that slower arrangement.

I believe the first version was cut by The Everly Brothers in 1957 for Cadence. It's not as frantic as the original either. They changed the "56" in the original lyrics into "57" in order to suit the current year :
