the best of the audience taped concerts

Postby WalterHaleJnr » Sat Aug 08, 2020 12:51 am

Lets kick thing off with - Opening Night August 4, 1972 , recorded live at The Hilton Hotel
August 4, 1972 OS. Las Vegas, NV. Notable for pre-Aloha 'My Way' and post 1969 'My Baby' songs.b Concert was very workmanlike and Elvis doesn't waste much time between songs.

There IS still a PLACE for audience taped concerts, provided they're of excellent sound and Elvis is in good spirits in other words at his best.

This topic is going to reflect the best of these.

It would be good to have some input from other members...

A few (unreleased) audience recordings from late august 1973 have an excellent sound; I don't know there are clips on Youtube.
I have an audience recording from 13 may 1973 3 am show. This tape is very much better comparing the CD release and the tape is soundboard quality. Unfortunately the introductions are missing.

Thanks Colonel. Is that the one where 'Faded Love' is? Can you put up a couple of the songs in mp3 here some time?

By your request an example:
The first time I ever saw your face - 24 august 1973 dinner

When I take a look on this site I noticed the concert is released on two CD's. I'm only interested in (for me) new audience recorded concerts so I don't check everywhere about CD releases. I got most of my tapes in the 80's / a few in the early 90's and a handful later on. I'm not "hunting" for new concerts because really new / unreleased concerts can't be expected. The well is dried up.

Thanks colonel for that.....all live versions are better than the studio one IMO.
That has some nice sound.

Fifty Years On ! Elvis Live August 14, 1970 Las Vegas , Hilton Hotel. Good to hear an audience taped show during the same week that Elvis , his band and Joe Guercio Orchestra were engaged in his third Vegas season.

There are quite a few audience recordings with excellent sound and contents. From recollection:

- Las Vegas NV, August 19, 1970 (MS)
- Portland OR, November 11, 1970
- Las Vegas NV, August 14, 1971 (MS)
- Las Vegas NV, August 4, 1972 (OS)
- Long Beach CA, November 15, 1972 (8:30pm)
- Portland OR, April 27, 1973 (ES)
- Las Vegas NV, August 25, 1973 (MS)*
- Ashville/ Uniondale, July 1975 shows**
- Atlanta GA, June 4, 1976 (ES)
- Pittsburgh PA, December 31, 1976+++
- Cincinatti OH, June 25, 1977 (ES)
- Indianapolis IN, June 26, 1977 (ES)+++

*There are quite a few recordings from August 10 - September 3 that are worthwhile soundwise but this show contains the one and only version of It's A Matter Of Time
**Soundwise not great but of significant historic importance
+++ Multiple great audio recordings/ sources
