Petition to NBC to Honour the Comeback Special 50th Anniversary: This is a neat idea by Elvis fan Dave Rogers who has started a change.org petition to NBC request that Elvis' classic 'Comeback Special' be shown on the 50th anniversary of the NBC premiere.

"On December 3, 1968, NBC aired what has since become known as Elvis Presley's '68 Comeback Special which was not only the most watched TV special that year, but also the catalyst for a rebirth in Elvis' career and the motivating factor in his decision to return to performing in front of live audiences again after several years of making movies in Hollywood.

We are petitioning NBC to replay the unedited version of this special on the 50th Anniversary next December 3, 2018, in the same time slot of

9:00PM EST in honor of this historic television and cultural event.
This will not only be a great show of respect for the life and legacy of Elvis, but also a true thrill for his millions of fans around the world.
Now at 6,000 fans, they would like 7,500 signatures.

It is going to happen. NBC are not going to give over 90 minutes of primetime on the basis of 7500 people.

I have a better idea.

Since all elements have been released, I say release a 90 minutes version using all outtakes and previously un-aired elements.
Create a whole new show, with a whole new edit and look about it.

Does NBC even have the rights to broadcast the show ? EPE controls the film/video: I would not be surprised if they demand an unreasonable price, and kill any such ambition.
I feel they missed the bus on promoting " If I Can Dream" on MLK's 50th Anniversary......and it goes on!

Elvisonstage55 can you ask the petition organizer(s) to find out if the NBC american TV actually holds the rights to screen it including a longer version?

Can't see the NBC , a main tv broadcaster , showing it but perhaps an offshoot channel of NBC would.

I do have my doubts that NBC would do it, it would need a lot more push from key people than a fan petition to get NBC interested.

Hey that's fabulous news. History DOES REPEAT aye !

I have been doing a fair amount of campaigning over on Youtube to get Elvis fans to sign and support one dave rogers petition. I turn 50 late this year and The Beatles White Album and Elvis TV Special original release dates was in the same month ! Those two records are near and dear to my heart, mate.

Here's hoping we get 4cd deluxe editions of the two albums.
