Shades of "I Can Help" on "That's What You Do To Me" I thought.

I think one had real commercial potential.

Put those songs with the studio cuts from Graceland and it would have been a cool album, with a nice mix of uptempo material. By Day By Day and That's that you Do To Me seem like real good opportunities.
Too bad.
thanks for the link

Did he just not show up at the studio in January, 1977 ?

Remind me...

He became upset following an argument with the girlfriend, i believe. This resulted with him cancelling recording session at the Creative Workshop in Tennessee.

According to Jerry Scheff, the studio door opened and he saw Elvis put his head in briefly. But that was the extent of it. Only Jerry reports seeing Elvis there.

As for the songs, my, my, did Elvis seem to change tack. There's a surprisingly high proportion of faster songs. Some of those tracks would most likely to have had a lot of airplay on country radio of the late 70s and the urban cowboy phase that followed in the early 80s. "That's What You Do To Me" sounds like it could have been a third consecutive No.1 single in 1977. "Let Me On" and "Yes I Do" would have been great rock n roll/country fusion - something he achieved with "Way Down", "For the Heart," and T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

Disappointing that we didn't get to hear Elvis do these.

Thank you very much for video! Really sorry about the fact that such good songs have not found their "master." It is worth noting that those songs that he recorded exceeded the original!

Reviewing this CD in Elvis The Man and His Music – I think it was the editor Trevor Cajiao - the writer was struck by how Elvis lifted (ie enhanced ) the demo version of songs. No doubt an example was the extra indefinable feel that he added to Layng Martine Jr’s Way Down. That’s why I think Elvis and the band could well have made even more successful versions of these two songs.
