RIP Tab Hunter

Postby John » Mon Jul 09, 2018 11:39 pm

Tab Hunter passed away yesterday from cardiac arrest following a blood clot. One of the first pop songs I liked was his 1957 hit, Young Love.

He came out as gay in 2005. Was there ever any doubt?

There was a scene in "Loving You" when Glenda suggested to Deke that he changed his name to "Tab" or "Rock".
I wonder if that was a suggestion that the two were gay.

Can't say I thought he was gay at the time when Young Love was charting.

They were just two stereotypical male names that were considered 'butch' & 'macho' for film or pop stars back then.

Gay references weren't commonplace in films in the fifties !

Nor did I as I never knew about such things back then.

I never noticed that.

So are there any film or pop stars, besides Hunter and Hudson, named Tab or Rock?

Probably not, I was talking of the world of fiction rather than the real one.

Nothing wrong with it at all.

Sort of synonym for 'precipice'...

We were discussing 'Tab' & 'Rock' because they were mentioned in Loving You as being suitable names for a rock star.

Cliff wasn't.

I know that. I was adding to your list of macho names for pop stars, that's all. Conversations go like that sometimes.
