With Elvis it is the same, but ...... we also investigate and visit places he has been, like his school, birthplace (even though that is not the original one but a re-built replica), recording studio's, stores where he bought his clothes and records, places he performed, et cetera.
Next to that "we" investigate about people around him, being former dates and girlfriends, co-stars from the movies, musicians, "friends", cars et cetera.
We pay top money to attend an event where people around Elvis talk about what we already know from their books.
Worst of all "we" even pay top money to see third rate impersonators trying to perform as close as possible Elvis' hits.
If a photographer took a series of photo's of which one or two were used for an article, we try to find the complete series and pay a top price for a book with these photo's.
While in the 70's and 80's poor sounding audience recordings were the holy grail, since then "better quality sound" versions are released and selling like hot cakes.
Aren't we a weird bunch?
As for myself:
1. "Investigate and visit places he has been, like his school, birthplace (even though that is not the original one but a re-built replica), recording studio's, stores where he bought his clothes and records, places he performed, et cetera."
Have only been to Graceland (twice) and Tupelo (once). To be honest, that's enough. No desire to return to either place again.
2. "Next to that "we" investigate about people around him, being former dates and girlfriends, co-stars from the movies, musicians, "friends", cars et cetera."
Just read books about some of the people in his orbit, because they all have various pieces to the overall story. That being said, some books are better than others.
3. "We pay top money to attend an event where people around Elvis talk about what we already know from their books."
Never have.
4. "Pay top money to see third rate impersonators"
Again, never have. All or most impersonators make me uncomfortable, because they are embarrassingly cringeworthy.
5. "If a photographer took a series of photo's of which one or two were used for an article, we try to find the complete series and pay a top price for a book with these photo's."
Can't say that I have ever done this, either.
6. "While in the 70's and 80's poor sounding audience recordings were the holy grail, since then "better quality sound" versions are released and selling like hot cakes."
Never liked ARs, then or now.
But, as our Man himself would say....."a buncha....."
