Elvis performed at the Milton Berle Show, USS Hancock, San Diego, California. Elvis was paid $3,000 for his appearance on the show, which was broadcast from the deck of an aircraft carrier.

Elvis took the 8.00 a.m. train to Ottawa, Canada, where he performed at the Ottawa Auditorium, at 4.40 and 8.00 p.m. After the show Elvis talked to some reporters: "It's a very uncertain business. The end may come in a lot less time than a few years".

Elvis went to Nashville for a recording session. The group of musicians were joined by saxophonist Boots Randolph. The plan was to record 10 songs over the next few nights, but Elvis recorded 12 songs in one marathon session from 7.30 p.m. to 7.30 a.m.

Elvis didn't want to go to Hawaii by plane, so the start of the picture was delayed. But at the last minute he was forced to fly because of a strike. He used the intervening time to drive to Las Vegas, where he stayed at the Sahara Hotel.
