Album titles

Why did RCA have such simple album titles for Elvis? This is another problem I have with the way he was and continues to be treated and marketed then and now. Lazy creation. For Elvis to have been the biggest star on the planet he sure was given a second rate treatment by his record company. It's a shame that Elvis wasn't able to do REAL studio albums like his counterparts did.

Below are some plain original album titles and what could have been more appealing alternate titles.

Elvis Is Back
Alternate: Such A Night

From Elvis In Memphis
Alternate: Back In Memphis (or) Back To The Roots

Back In Memphis
Alternate: Stranger In My Own Home Town

In Person
Alternate: Back In Action (or) Elvis Live!

On Stage February 1970
Alternate: Return To Vegas

Elvis Country
Alternate: Tomorrow Never Comes

Elvis Now
Alternate: Early Morning Rain

As Recorded At Madison Square Garden
Alternate: An Evening In The Garden (or) Elvis Live At Madison Square Garden

Elvis Today
Alternate: Pieces Of My Life

From Elvis Presley Boulevard
Alternate: Hurt

RCA were an old company and used the same folk who worked for them for years when EP came in.

Some one young with new ideas was were they should have gone ... ELVIS TODAY.

I agree and I forgot about the Today lp title.

I'm not sure about this , but I think Joan Deary may have had a hand in titling the LPs and Colonel Parker may also have been involved .

That would explain a lot.

But Scooby, several of your ideas are just song titles.
Worse than their album titles were the outdated photos used on several of the front & back covers.
I'm happy to be an Elvis fan! 8-)

Elvis Is Back
Alternate: Such A Night

Elvis is Back is the perfect title

From Elvis In Memphis
Alternate: Back In Memphis (or) Back To The Roots

from elvis in Memphis is fine, but the album cover should have included details about the sessions

Back In Memphis
Alternate: Stranger In My Own Home Town

Yes, I've often thought this would have been a good title

In Person
Alternate: Back In Action (or) Elvis Live!

Elvis Live would have been logical.

On Stage February 1970
Alternate: Return To Vegas

On Stage is fine

Elvis Country
Alternate: Tomorrow Never Comes

Nah, Elvis country is the right title

Elvis Now
Alternate: Early Morning Rain

the album shouldn't have been released with any title, but now is certainly misleading

As Recorded At Madison Square Garden
Alternate: An Evening In The Garden (or) Elvis Live At Madison Square Garden

As recroded at was clumsy

Elvis Today
Alternate: Pieces Of My Life

Pieces of my life would have sounded like a compilation, not that today meant anything

From Elvis Presley Boulevard
Alternate: Hurt

Original title is fine, though again the cover needed to explain where it was recorded, not have the stupid misleading `recorded live' tag

Several titles for an Elvis album were tried out before the cover of an Elvis-album was finally designed and printed.

Do you have any letters and documents to back this up?

Hi, i read in some books, in the 70's Parker's intention was to numbered the albums only ELVIS 1972, ELVIS 1973 etc :D ..., but so what, with all of my respect for ELVIS and his work, he was never an "album artist", like Bobby Darin did with the "Bobby Darin Story" on ATCO and a lot of other albums and not talkin' about Frank Sinatras work or Deans. ELVIS' X-Mas and Gospel output and the Soundtracks and live concerts are perfect on vinyl (incl. content, title and most of the album art)...but the rest is a little bit lousy don't you think so?, imo Parker thought it is 4ever a selfrunner, and i think for ELVIS it was never ever importand, it was easy money.... By the way, as a simple example, how could ELVIS aloud the "HAVING FUN WITH ELVIS ON STAGE" LP on Boxcar and later on RCA....?! by the way, the cover is a real good one but the title misses, nothing is funny on stage with EP on this album, imo Matt

Before sitting at the piano to sing Unchained Melody Elvis mentions that it will be on his new album called ‘Unchained Melody’. Has anyone ever seen a reference to that title as a working title for Moody Blue or was Elvis just kidding/confused?

Trivia time. Do you know there is one Elvis Presley album title that was re-used by RCA on another artist? I'm not talking about compilations such as the "A Legendary Performer" series or the "Pure Gold" album.

It's kind of like people on dating website....they use older pictures to show they are still young.

Remember the 1975 shot of Elvis on the cover of Elvis in Concert.
They were not about to use a 1977 picture.
Welcome to my world.....1970 image.
Moody blue---shot from 1972.

As Elvis grew older, they wanted him to stay young. Of course his first album is an iconic shot.

As far as RCA's album titles I can take or leave them.

Some are classic I think. "for LP fans only" "50 million elvis fans can't be wrong"

Also, the way they sprinkled the songs to the albums though was strange.

Yes of course, and long before those 1977 albums...
