"Angela Lansbury [Dame Angela Brigid Lansbury, DBE] is an English-American-Irish actress who has appeared in theatre,
television, and film, as well as a producer and singer.
Her career has spanned seven decades, much of it in the United States, and her work has attracted international acclaim."

Below: Perhaps best-known for her portrayal of the Jessica Fletcher character in the Murder She Wrote US TV series [1984-1996].

She appeared in 1961's Blue Hawaii as an overbearing mother, whose son was played by Elvis Presley.
Acknowledging that the film was of poor quality, she commented that she agreed to appear in it because "I was desperate"

I wonder how she felt about having to play his mother. She was only 10 years older.

Yes, that's bizarre. Another classic example would be that of actors / actresses playing the role of teenagers, while they were well into their twenties in real life.

James Dean was 24 when he appeared on "Rebel Without A Cause", Elvis was 23 in "King Creole", etc.

There is a 1956 film directed by Don Siegel, "Crime In The Streets", starring John Cassavetes. The film is about juvenile delinquency... but Cassavetes was already 26 years old !

The real teenagers chosen for the roles were surly and had bad attitude, which is what was required, but, they couldn't get up in time and when they did, they were always hungry.

Co-Stars - Dolores Hart.PNG

Dolores Hart, O.S.B., is an American Roman Catholic Benedictine nun who had previously been a prominent actress.
She made ten films in five years, playing opposite Stephen Boyd, Montgomery Clift, George Hamilton and Robert Wagner.
By the early 1960s an established leading lady, she "stunned Hollywood" by announcing that she would forgo her life as an actress & become a nun, leaving behind her career to enter the Abbey of Regina Laudis monastery in Connecticut.

She made her film debut in Loving You [1957] & also starred with Elvis in King Creole [1958].

Dolores Hart is my favourite Elvis co-star. What a wonderful lady.

Coincidentally or not, in 1961 she co-starred in "Francis of Assisi", another Michael Curtiz-directed movie, where she appears to become a nun (I haven't seen the film, just the trailer) :

Thanks !

I wonder if she was inspired by her role in that to become a nun for real ?

On a technical note, & to add to my post, although she made her 'debut' in the 1957 film Loving You she did make a brief appearance as an 'uncredited child' in Forever Amber a film from 1947, when she was eight.
