Love the entire Album. For me, there is not 1 weak track recorded on this album by 40-year-old Elvis Presley. 8-)

Here is what was written about the song T-R-O-U-B-L-E in the 1982 Discography book "The Illustrated Record " by Roy Carr and Mick Farren. I agree 100%

A Blockbusting performance from everyone involved. T-R-O-U-B-L-E evoked the same combustible intensity Elvis had rarely triggered since his NBC-TV Special. Spurred on by Ronnie Tutt's demented drumming, Elvis fired straight from the hip with covering fire from the dueling pianistics of David Briggs and Glen D Hardin. This was Rock and Roll as it was originally conceived, and coupled with his recent hit, " Promised Land ", this track dispelled persisted rumors that Elvis was to sick to cut the mustard.

T-R-O-U-B-L-E offered sufficient evidence that Elvis had caught a second breath, picked up the thread and was still capable of mixing it in the roughest of company. So why this remarkable single didn't top the charts, instead of crawling no higher than #35, remains to this day a perplexing unsolved mystery. At the time of its release, Elvis was out on the road packing in the SRO crowds nightly on a southern trek, generating scenes of mass hysteria and grossing more greenbacks than most other Rock groups of the time.

It's inexplicable that not only the American public but the world at large didn't recognize a stone solid Elvis Presley classic when it bulldozed right over them. If that was the case, they didn't deserve better.

Elvis sounds good and there is a good mix of songs, although too many were already well known.
TROUBLE is a great rocker and my favorite on the set

Good on you, Walter. 8-)

About 5 or 6 years ago there was a poll on the FECC forum that asked members
to vote on whether or not they liked Elvis' studio recording of "Fairytale".

If I remember correctly, the results were very close... something like 52% YES, and 48% NO.
I'm happy to be an Elvis fan! 8-)

T-R-O-U-B-L-E is well ahead in this poll. Next is Pieces of my Life but a distant second.

i love the album too except for the very bland version of And I love Yo So. I recently made up a cassette tape (yes i still search for them and buy 'em) and replace it with "Tiger Man' '75" which came up good in sequence :D

An odd song in that the title is mentioned only the once, in the opening line...

I can easily believe it.

Walter, surely your comment is tongue-in-cheek.

I love this album! I especially have a soft spot for Bringing it Back, just love the wistfullness. I even set it as my alarmclock tune every morning 8-)
So now my dog loves it too because he knows when Elvis begins to sing it's time for a walk and more importantly, food!

As I usually do with Walters’s series of polls, I put on the headphones to hear close-up sound on music that I hadn’t played in years!

And I’ve found myself changing my mind and having a few minor quibbles over the final production.

Starting off with a general observation - I thought that the album’s structure is practically country so the record lends itself to a remix as simpler country album.

Elvis’ “safety in numbers” approach, which Felton Jarvis mentioned, is exhibit A on this album. As a result of this overdubbing, several times these extra layers prevent country’s directness and simplicity ringing through emphatically. Fiddle and steel guitar are suppressed by voices and string arrangements.

But Elvis brings to the studio a variety of rendering techniques and moods which make this an album of distinct character.

It only reached No.4 on Billboard’s Country charts. The greater success was around the corner with other albums, but on the whole, I do like the feel of this Pop-Country or Country-Pop album.

In terms of specific tracks, I was surprised to hear for the first time Elvis' admirably committed 'Woman Without Love', rather tender 'And in Love You So', lonely 'Pieces of My Love', and moving 'Green Green Grass of Home' (love that dramatic piano at the end). The other tracks continue are as good as ever; perhaps more so now because I’m growing into them.

It's a good thing that tracks 11-20 on CD1 of this Legacy Edition are now available for anyone to explore.
