Another DJ Fontana story, this time from 1984, the very first time I met him. This happened in the foyeur of what was then the Hilton Hotel on Democrat Rd in Memphis.
I'd just bought this 'bootleg' album from Ace Anderson and I asked DJ to sign it, he said he wasn't on it and I replied he was another part of the team of Elvis, Scotty & Bill.
He looked at it and said it was a bootleg, just then Ace whispered in his ear 'Sssh, it's an import', DJ then said to me 'So....sssh, it's an import, that's ok then' and signed it with a wry smile. He knew.. LOL

Great memory....thanks DJ.

It is great drumming from DJ on "My Baby Left Me".

That said, technically, the idea wasn't totally an original from DJ as that drumming and bass intro is there on the Arthur Crudup original. Elvis' version just as that bit more fire to it.

Do love Crudups original too. Love that shout he does just before the solo break "this ain't the place for me"....think that's the exact words from memory, not played it in a while but a great shout though.
she's well acquainted with a touch of the velvet hand, like a lizard on a window pane
