Yes, I agree with you, Matt Helm.
People can (and should) give a much more accurate assessment of the contents of a CD only after they've actually heard the material instead of judging it beforehand.
I'm happy to be an Elvis fan! 8-)

Probabbly no space to release all instrumental tracks?

I don't think having instrumental tracks would appeal too much to fans. And maybe that could be the answer why they are not included.

As for the mono masters they could have included them. Who knows why they didn't.

Maybe it will be included on the LP release like they will do with the upcoming FTD Roustabout 2 lp set!.

Yes, I'm sure they will. It'll make the album sell just that little bit more - which is probably why they do it.

I think these FTD LPs are great. The art work and packaging is great and so different from the original. I don't own all of them but I do have the "Elvis Is Back" one which is my fav - great photo used.

What a great cover!!!!

I don't buy vinyl since a few years; I don't buy a record for a cover but for the music. On the other hand a soundboard recording can replace my audience recording although from 1976 in general the audience recordings don't have a bad sound.

Matt

Considering the less than rapturous reception for the latest FTDs and now the release of the 17th 1976 soundboard as part of the next batch on the label, it is perfectly sensible to discuss what is forthcoming and why.

With all of my respect shanebrown, i know what you mean...but the cow is milked so far. I think some Mulitracks are in the can and most of all the ON TOUR stuff are still unreleased...BUT before do judge a new future release, please listen to it when you get it, that's all...and i'm NOT A FAN of ELVIS' Output 1976-1977 studio or live. Matt

I'm sorry, I don't buy into that. Knowing what concerts are on the disc is enough to criticise the label for releasing too much material from within the same year. This set brings the total concerts from 1976 to 17 on the label, including four concerts from within a five day period. It can be the best concert that Elvis gave in his entire life, and nothing changes those facts. There are plenty of other shows that FTD could be giving us, multitrack or soundboard - even a show from 1976 might be a decent choice if it was from one of the tours or seasons we have nothing else from during that year (Vegas, Tahoe, or the March tour). We also know there are many rehearsals from TTWII that have never had an official release. The TV shows from the 1950s have not had a sound upgrade since they were first released in 1984.

You tell me to listen to it when I get it - why in heaven's name would I buy it? Even if I liked 1976 shows, I'd hardly need 17 of them!

I agree, there could be typo, and instead of a concert from 1976, the cd contains a live show from 1956.

PS. I am being sarcastic.

Of course you can criticize before a release, when you are critcizing what is being released.

I also buy albums for the music only. I just commented on what a great cover it was.

As for soundboards from the 70s.... Forget it!

shanebrown...oh lord have mercy, you are ONE of the very BEST when it comes to ELVIS Recording Legacy...and i like your first edition of your book..let the FTD's coming in, if it's two 76 concersts or an MGM Soundtrack...what the heck, let's discuss about it after the official realease, with all of my respect and fun for the music, Matt

Me too, and then apart from Elvis On Tour, that's it for me. No more soundboards, and unless they find anymore studio recordings, there is nothing more as far as I'm concerned.

Me too, the same.
I'm ready for 'anything' regarding On Tour.

For me, the point of anticipation has come to, I am just tired of waiting.

When they wait this long, it puts pressure to really follow thru.

Remember when we waited forever for the DVD release and then used a different song at the beginning which really pissed us off.

Well, by now, they need to put together something really special. a multi-disc box set.

I think the main label needs to put out a blu-ray/ CD 6 disc set with big book.

That's what it's come to for me. If I dont' get that, ......ho hum.

I don't have a blu-ray player, and I'm certainly not getting one, but I agree, the EOT release needs to be special. It could be they're saving this for last so they keep taking out money in between for all the other crap (I never thought I'd refer to an Elvis release as crap, but enough is enough as far as soundboards are concerned).

John, I am still ok, with soundboards, as long as they can find exceptional shows. And I think, is they are releasing the bad ones now so they can issue better ones later. My theory is....they don't have much pre-1973 soundboards, but they know who does, and they have access to them, and will make a deal on them when we get tired of 1976 soundboards. The weird thing is, with all the 1976 ones being released, they have virtually ignored the 1977 ones. Wait til they get on a roll with those! After that then maybe we'll get some good stuff.

You may want to re-think your opinion on blu-ray, I did and I am glad I did.
I have been replacing all my favorite movies in blu-ray, and watching them is like watching them anew.
I am so glad I made the jump to that format. Also, many movies have blu-ray exclusive content, ie. outtakes and deleted scenes or extended cuts.
And think about this....we are now in the 4K format, so DVD is two levels down in quality.
PS. I never bought a single VHS or laser disc of any movie.
