As usual SONY(UK) have confirmed that there will be a TV Campaign for the Elvis/RPO Christmas Album.

It's what Elvis would have wanted.

I preordered mine. It's nice that you don't have to buy a box set to get bonus tracks this time.

Hello,
I would like to know if the deluxe edition of the new album of Elvis chritsmas with the royal philharmonic orchestra with the bonus songs (red cover, released in November 2017) will be released ONLY in CD or in a box (with 2 vinyl including the songs bonus and a cd) as the 2 previous opus (If i can dream and the wonder of you).
It's not very clear. In October comes the vinyl edition without the bonus songs. Should it wait until November to have the vinyl edition in a box with the bonus songs ?
Thank you for your help
Best regards

I don't think any of us knows any more than you at the moment, XDFKSW.

The Elvis and RPO release will need that TV (and, hopefully, radio) promotion again, as this album might be the hardest one of the three to sell to the masses in the UK.

Good to see that that the first release has daylight between it and the other RPO releases:

6th October – Elvis and RPO (The regular release)
3rd November- Roy Orbison and RPO
10th November – Aretha Franklin and the RPO
24th November – Elvis and the RPO (Deluxe version)

Well, I really liked the first couple of albums. Here I'm not sure it works as well. The 50s tracks don't sound that great with maybe the exception of I'll Be Home For Christmas. The 70 tracks are OK, but really nothing special. Still, I'm sure it will be a big seller.

So, this is not a good idea this time round. The whole thing sounds pedestrian with some very lazy arrangements and Elvis' voice is buried on several of the 50s tracks. Even the others are nothing to write home about. There's a lovely sax solo on I'll Be Home For Christmas, but that's it.

The raw sound of Santa Claus Is Back In Town, Here Comes Santa Claus, Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me and Blue Christmas is lost. Merry Christmas Baby is unsuitable for this treatment and there is very little imagination in the treatment of the songs.

I liked the first two albums, but they should have kept well away from these songs.

Today i played the CD 2x...but so what... YES i like it. The Songs sound different with the RPO arrangement very corny and sweet but in my opinion it fits for the holiday season 2017. I am not a fan of the first 2 RPO output NO WAY!!! But i think this X-Mas CD release isn't that bad at all, yes i like ELVIS CHRISTMAS...Matt

Listened to it all this morning on Google Play. It's not bad this time around. Not as good as the other two. I think it's a lot harder to rework those 50s masters because of their mono source but if Sony's going to do an annual Christmas release anyway might as well be something new for one year.

Are The Producers Deaf? - Elvis RPO Christmas Album

Postby Mountain Mist » Sat Oct 07, 2017 9:16 am

Tinny, Elvis' voice is too far back, plus the orchestra, strangely, is also too far forward, lol - it's a miracle they could do just a bad job of production, lol

What do we all think? lol

I don't know if I can keep listening past "Christmas" lol

Mountain Mist, we already have a thread on this. I have merged it.
