Is there any reason I would need to buy this if I have the original release?

You don't of course need to buy it, however, as you may know the stereo masters were lost, so what you have on the original release are the mono masters.
These tracks have been given the mono to stereo treatment. The technology is now so advanced that you wouldn't know that these aren't the stereo masters.
Of course it all depends on whether you're a fan of stereo. I am, and I have to say that the mono to stereo songs that have already been done by Tony Stuchbury are amazing. You can now clearly hear things that you have never heard properly before.

Are you saying this release was by Tony Stuchbury. ???

No mention of re-processed stereo...

You can listen to sound samples below Colin.
They don’t sound like re-processed stereo to me, that was a late 60’s into the 70’s abomination.

More likely, as John noted, MRS used software to create stereo versions from the mono versions.
