FTD's 25th Anniversary in 2024

Postby bluehawaii » Thu Oct 26, 2023 8:22 am

Follow That Dream Records has been in operation since 1999. Do you expect anything special for the 25th anniversary or will 2024 be just another year?

Fans have been waiting for these very special releases all this time and occasionally the label was able to deliver (e.g. Dinner At Eight, Takin' Tahoe Tonight, A Boy From Tupelo, Bruce Jackson On The Road With Elvis).

As 2023 comes to an end it's easy to take the label and its output for granted. The amount of content issued on FTD has been especially staggering this year, and with the nearing release of 3 live soundboard recordings (Summer Of '76) and a big, expensive book+CD combo (Elvis Now In Person 1972) the year ain't over just yet.

Like everyone else I have a few things on an imaginary wish-list, e.g. soundboard recordings from Wichita and / or Pittsburgh '76, a decent quality tape of Memphis '61 or studio outtakes of "All Shook Up" and "Don't Be Cruel". None of this is going to happen, so I guess I'll be good with a complimentary t-shirt and a temporary re-design of the FTD logo instead ;)

What's on your mind when it comes to 2024?

of course this would be a 3-disc set, including Indy his closing show.

EIC seems to be the auto reply for a lot of fans.
Sadly.

Just keep EIC under wraps forever, FTD.
Please.

Have you heard the Hampton Roads 1976 FTD?

Exactly....or New Haven 76. both shows are worse than Rapid city.

And the TV special material is key material in that it's from his last ever tour, and it was a TV special.

FTD needs to document it. And the sound itself was one of the worse sounding recordings that RCA produced.

The balance is all off on those recordings. A new mix is badly needed.

Exactly. And then to think, FTD was suppose to release the concert from Houston, 1976. Due to circumstances, it came out anyway by Audionics. This and the concert from June 24, 1977 are the worst I've ver heard.

They have the tapes and I'm confident there will be a release on FTD (and not on the main label) at some point. Matt Ross-Spang should be able to salvage these recordings and present them in the best possible way. He's the right man for the job.

Yeah, I'd be strongly in favour of Matt having a crack at this one.

I was thinking about this subject a couple of days ago. I even drafted a text to post on another forum, but I gave up because the people there are so negative.
But I'd really like to have the complete Memphis 1969 sessions. It would be a nice celebration.
Other releases:
- A box with shows from 1975, on cardboard, with 5 CDs (like the Charlie Bring me The Request Box) format.
- Standing Room Only LP, reissued on colored vinyl;
- The complete sessions from Nashville 1970 or 1971...

The live stuff from 1970 is a complete mess spread about all over the place. I'd like to see that treated with some respect.

The surviving binaural sessions from January 1957 should be available in one place.

I agree.... a similair set to the 1969 Vegas 11 disc set.

I'm surprised they haven't addressed this yet. The February recordings need a good sort out.
