Old Bill changed it from the original 3/4 time to 4/4 time. Here he does both live and name checks Elvis.

Thank you for the thread. I prefer Elvis' Blue Moon Of Kentucky to his A Side.

Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys recorded the original version in Chicago in September 1946 (Columbia 37888) :

But it was not released until a year later :

(Incidentally, Wiley (Walker) and Gene (Sullivan) were the originators (1941) of "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again").

I'm assuming that date refers to 4th September, 1954, & not 9th April !

Bill re-recorded his 1947 single in a livelier style after hearing Elvis' version released in July, 1954.

Love Bill's 1946 cut.

A song that Elvis completely transforms into something else - 10 out of 10.

Also like the slower rehearsal performance. I can imagine the Blue Moon Boys giving that slower take another couple of trys in the studio.
